Bikram Yoga

Bikram Yoga is a new form of yoga comprising of a series of 26 postures (asanas) and two breathing exercises (pranayamas). It is suitable for all ages and levels of ability. Bikram Yoga is held for a short duration, usually each session runs for approximately 90 minutes. Each posture stretches and strengthens specific muscles, ligaments and joints needs for the next posture. It also helps to promote strength, balance, focus and flexibility, as well as cultivated a connection between mind and body. What is special about Bikram Yoga is that it is held in a heated studio with temperature over 100 Fahrenheit. The heat is provided in a safe environment for the body’s muscles to relax and loosen. This method helps to stimulate the organs, glands, nerves and allowing an increase in blood circulation and the body’s natural cleansing system activating the sweat glands.

When practicing Bikram Yoga you should dress lightly and try to practice with an empty stomach and an open mind. Try not to eat at least two hours before class and try to stay hydrated throughout the day as well as after class. It is recommended that you bring plenty of water when you attend class, towel and a yoga mat. It is also recommended that you do not wear strong perfumes.

As we have mentioned earlier, Bikram Yoga is suitable for all ages and various level of ability. Bikram Yoga is especially designed for beginners, but yet still gives more advance individual a challenge and rewarding session.

Bikram Yoga can be practice as frequent as you wish to. As you progress in your practice you can build up the momentum in your body’s willingness to change and overcome obstacles. You should start off by 5 times a week to maximize your results and to maintain, 3 times a week recommended. The more you are committed to yoga, you would notice changes to you body as well as your priorities and perception of life.
